Over 150 Years

Serving the Poor

PIME (The Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions) was born in 1850 in the small town of Saronno, near Milan, Italy. Servant of God Bishop Angelo Ramazzotti along with Pope Pius IX gave life to this, the first Italian Missionary Seminary.

In 1947, PIME was invited to the United States by Archbishop Cardinal Mooney and eventually settled in the Archdiocese of Detroit. Just as it was in those first days in the country, their Mission remains to spread awareness of the silent struggle of our brothers and sisters in the missions.
