Chad
Location:
Chad is a landlocked African country. It has an area roughly equal to Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, and Arizona combined, stretching over 1,100 miles from north to south. The country shares Lake Chad with Cameroon.
Language:
French, Arabic (official languages); more than 100 local languages
Common Religions:
Traditional African religion; Islam; Christianity. About 20% of the population is Catholic.
Problems for people here:
Much like in Cameroon, the environment provides its own challenges through arid desserts and wildly differing climate issues, but Extremist violence is horrific and problematic here, too. Food, water, and medical care are hard to come by, and it is because of this that the country has one of the worst infant mortality rates in the world. Malnutrition and violent have become all too common, and has displaced an innumerable amount of people as a result.

PIME’s charitable work with Caritas around the Lake Chad Basin along with our other Missionary work in the country has helped to try and stem the humanitarian crisis in the country.
