The Health Center of Mary Immaculate

Introduction to the Center and PIME U.S. Supporter Impact

PIME U.S. Mission Center Administrator, Fr. Daniele Criscione, introduces us to the Health Center of Mary Immaculate in Yaoundé, Cameroon. After meeting a couple of the MDI-PIME Sisters who manage the Health Center, Fr. Daniele takes us inside to give us an overview of the work of the Center and details some of the important work that supporters like you have funded through the PIME MDP Medical project.

Glaucoma Machine for the Health Center of Mary Immaculate (10216)

Originally planned to be utilized at another MDI-PIME Sister managed health clinic in rural Bibemi to the north, the needs of patients and the spatial needs of the center meant that the crucial glaucoma machine would need to be moved to the Cameroonian capital.

Due to the prevalence of eye diseases in this area of Africa, as a result of excessive sun exposure, glaucoma prevention is important to prevent blindness or other permanent eye issues.

The Edimar Center for Street Children

Founded by PIME Missionary Fr. Maurizio Bezzi in 2002, the Edimar Center was created to address a constant stream of thousands of young people coming from the countryside of Cameroon to the capital city.

The Center provides a safe environment for the street children of Yaoundé to seek and education and the means to gain professional employment in the city, rather than falling victim to crime or other cycles of poverty in the city.

Over the years, PIME U.S. Supporters have done a great deal to ensure that the Edimar Center is able to continue its work with this vulnerable population.
