The Bethlehem Center
Supporting the Babies of La Crèche
Our PIME U.S. Mission Center Administrator, Fr. Daniele Criscione, joins us from La Crèche nursery in the Bethlehem Center. An especially merciful work of the Center, La Crèche takes in children whose mothers have died in childbirth, feeding them and caring for them. The hope of this program, is that the child’s remaining family will be able to reintegrate them into the family when they are three years-old.
For several years now, PIME U.S. Supporters have provided food to these poor children, who often show up to La Crèche malnourished or sick. The need for the nursery and food for the babies cared for there is ongoing. Click below to learn more.
Therapy for Children with Disabilities
Fr. Daniele sits down with trained physiotherapist Bro. Alessandro Albani, PIME, and Gibolo - a boy with disabilities who can now move and express himself thanks to physical therapy an special education. This program at the Bethlehem Center specially designs a therapy and educational program to cater to the needs of each child. Many children with needs like Gibolo, can often end up abandoned or surrendered to the Center due to social stigmas or the family simply not having the resources to care for them at home. The Bethlehem Center is the only place in the Far North Region of Cameroon that is actually equipped to care for people with special needs.
The PIME Sponsored Kindergarten at the Bethlehem Center
The Bethlehem Center is a major resource for education in the isolated area of Mouda, in the Far North of Cameroon. In addition to having students traveling for education from the surrounding area, children who age out of the La Crèche are giving housing and an education at the Center. Supporters of our PIME Sponsorships at a Distance program help to provide the children of the kindergarten here at the Center with the funding they need for their education and care while they are at the Bethlehem Center. CESDA School for the Deaf
The school for the deaf at the Bethlehem Center is one of the only one’s of its kind in the Far North Region of Cameroon. This means that children come from very far away to receive an accessible education at the Center. The school not only gives an accessible, normal curriculum - something that these kids would not otherwise receive - but it also gives them the means simply to communicate, which is a remarkable and priceless gift.
Traveling Around Mouda/Maroua
Water Project in the Mouda/Maroua Area (10149-R2)
In the Far North Region of Cameroon, water is a scare and precious resource. Women and children normally have to travel miles to obtain poor quality water that often endangers their health. PIME Missionary Fr. Danilo Fenaroli, founder of the Bethlehem Center, petitioned the PIME U.S. Mission Center to help dig wells for fresh water that are closer to inhabited areas in the Mouda/Maroua region. PIME U.S. Supporters answered that call by raising enough funds to dig six wells like the one pictured. More wells are needed, as there are countless villages and families that need clean water sources such as this one. Click below to help give them clean water.
